    • Helping Your Organization “Reflect on Reality” Bill Welter Adaptive Strategies. Bill is a consulting-educator who helps organizations succeed by helping managers excel and prepare for their tomorrows.
This program will show credit professionals how they can play an important role in the defining and aligning of each of the parts of your company’s business model and help their business partners to “reflect on reality” by putting the various pressures in the proper perspective of balancing short term needs and building the organization for a sustainable future. Then, and only then, will your organization make decisions that are risk appropriate. Because credit professionals stand at the intersection of the business models they are in a unique position to help their organizations take reasonable risk and avoid foolish risk.

      Tuesday - all day
    • Economic Update Featuring Dr. Joseph W. Duncan.
A Senior Fellow at the Policy and Economic Research Council and Former V.P. and Chief Economist for the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. He is a frequent speaker and writer for the Credit Research Foundation.

Dr Duncan will discuss how all recessions bring major pressures on credit markets. Receivables grow as payments slow, trade credit tightens along with bank credit, inventories become more expensive, and the costs of gaining new business rises. The key question in evaluating the economy becomes "compared to what".

When we look at the total decline in GDP it resembles 1974-76 more than it matches the press headlines of the "worst since the depression'. Yet 1974 is not a good benchmark because the background did not include a financial bubble (a 20 year explosion of total credit) that is the major problem in 2009. We are truly in "uncharted waters."

Dr. Duncan will address the outlook for 2010/11 in the context of current credit conditions. He will identify some key indicators to follow in the next few quarters and he will suggest some short term issues that will be important to all players in the commercial credit world.

    • "Compliance Under the Red Flags Rule" - Wanda Borges, Borges & Associates & Bruce Nathan, Lowenstein Sandler The Federal Trade Commission has most recently set November 1, 2009 as the compliance deadline for the recently enacted Red Flags Rule. The Red. Flags Rule requires most creditors and financial institutions to adopt a written program to detect, prevent and mitigate identity theft in connection with a new or existing covered account. Each creditor and financial institution that is subject to the rule must adopt a risk-based program that identifies red flags relevant to its own operation and how it will respond to them.
This program provides you details to determine whether the Rule applies to your company. It addresses the basic elements necessary to create your company’s Red Flags Program, including how to identify, detect and respond to Red Flags giving rise to identity theft risk and the steps that should be taken to develop, implement and update your company's Red Flags program.
